Greek Banks Can Return To Markets This Summer

Greek banks might be able to return to international capital markets by this summer, Mihalis Sallas, the chairman of Piraeus Bank said. Answering reporters' questions following a bank's extraordinary general shareholders' meeting on Thursday, Sallas said that an international climate towards Greece has radically changed in the last few months, and it has had positive effects for the economy. He said that the climate is now more favourable, and there is a grand difference with the prevailing climate a few months ago.

At the same time he expressed his optimism over a successful completion of a Greek banks' recapitalization process, noting that banks are going to become a lever for restarting economic growth in the country. Sallas underlined that Greek banks have already begun distributing capital to small and medium-sized competitive businesses with export orientation, or offering added value to Greek products.
